VEHICLE
& DRIVING SAFETY
Purpose:
This procedure
outlines the responsibilities and activities
required ensuring the safety of drivers
on M.A.Agencies business on behalf of M.A.
Agencies.
Scope:
Cover's all M.A.Agencies
operations where employee driving is required
to conduct our business efficiently and
effectively.
Responsibility:
It is the responsibility
of the most senior manager in the operational
area to ensure the requirements of his procedure
are followed, that personnel are provided
with suitable and sufficient training and
that company vehicles and associated equipment
are maintained in good working order.
It is the responsibility of all employees
to ensure the requirement of this procedure
are followed, hazards are reported, all
accidents and incidents are reported and
vehicle safety checks are conducted as and
when required.
All drivers are required to report any defects
discovered in their vehicle or in any associated
equipment. If any defect, which could affect
the safe operation of the vehicle, is discovered
in their vehicle. They must not drive it
until it has been rectified.
Procedure:
The use of seats
belts is required by all vehicle drivers,
if a seat belt is fitted to the vehicle
it must be worn, passengers are also required
to wear seat belts where these are fitted.
If possible seat belts should be of the
three point inertial type, lap belts are
acceptable for passengers traveling in a
middle should be of the three point in some
circumstance e.g. off-road driving the use
of safety helmets should be considered.
Company vehicle are to be driven in strict
compliance with local, state, regional or
country regulations and in strict compliance
with the requirements of M.A.Agencies Alcohol,
Drug and contraband policy.
To operate a company vehicle a driver must
meet all legal and company qualifications
and requirements.
Firearms are not allowed in any company
vehicle without written consent from the
Area Manager, this is subject to local restrictions.
Speed limits should be adhered to on public
roads, M.A.Agencies premises and customer
premises.
Radar detectors are strictly forbidden in
company owned, leased or rented vehicles.
Company vehicles are to be driven only by
the employee to whom the vehicle has been
assigned or an employee who has been authorized
to operate a particular company vehicles.
in some location local drivers will be employed
to conduct all driving tasks, company`s
employees must check on sub-contractors
company
policy before driving vehicles, national
driving license validity must be checked.
Keep car door locked when traveling in urban
areas.
Keep the all valuables ( specially laptop
computers and mobile phones ) out of site
or taken out of the vehicle, if possible
when traveling and when parked.
Keep all the vehicle well maintained and
with a surplus of fuel for the planned journey,
in remote location, where access to a service
station or garage may not be possible ,
additional fuel may be required ( i.e. more
then the tank is capable of holding ) suitable
fuel canes or an additional fuel tank should
be used.
Keep
a basic first aid kit, accident report kit,
fire extinguisher and reflective triangles
( flare or torch ) in the vehicle and appropriate
legal papers such as car registration and
Insurance card.
Always approach the vehicle with the keys
in hand, check in the rare seat area before
opening the vehicle, be aware of the people
around, lock the vehicle when inside.
Try to avoid eye contact with gesturing at
or confronting other drivers do not drive
aggressively or in any other way to provoke
other road user.
Never pick up hitch hikers.
Inattention to the road most common cause
of road accident mobile or cellular phone
must not be used while driving a vehicle.
Stop the vehicle in a safe location before
using a cellular phone. Do not attempt to
read a map, document or take notes while driving.
Fatigue is a major cause of road
accident, ensure when driving you take regular
breaks, if it is unsafe to stop, open window
and turn up the radio ( if available ) until
you have an opportunity to stop in a safe
locations, under no circumstance will fatigue
be considered a valid excuse for an accident.
if you believe, you are being followed, drive
to a police station or a crowded place, if
possible.
If anyone stop to confront you, do not stop
it at all possible, and keep the doors and
windows locked. Summon help as it is safe
to do so.
