DRIVER SAFETY

Purpose:

This procedure outlines the responsibilities and activities required to ensure safe driving practices and the safe and efficient use of vehicles used by M.A.Agencies for business or on behalf of M.A.Agencies.

Scope:

Cover all M.A.Agencies operation where the use of vehicles and employment driving is required to conduct our business efficiently and effectively.

Responsibility:

It is the responsibility of the most senior manager in the operational area to ensure the requirements of this procedure are followed, that personnel are provided with suitable and sufficient training and that company vehicles and associated equipment are maintained in good in working order.

It is the responsibility of all employees to ensure the requirements of this procedure and followed hazards are reported, all accidents and incidents are reported and vehicle safety checks are conducted as and when required.

All driver are required to report and defects discovered in their vehicle or in any associated equipment. If any defect, which could affect the safe operation of the vehicle, is discovered in their vehicle. They must not drive it until it has been rectified.

Procedure:

All Vehicle owned or hired by M.A.Agencies must be roadworthy, accompanied by the appropriate documentation, and suitable for the purpose it is to be used for and maintained according with statutory and company`s guidelines. Similar measures need to be in place for vehicles owned by employees and operated on company business. Measures, Which shall be taken to reduce or avoid these risks,
Include:

  • Carrying out an inspection of the vehicle before starting a journey.
  • Ensuring competence of all employees involved in transport operations.
  • Planning and enforcing the use of approved journey routes.
  • Providing regular breaks for drivers.
  • When possible using second person to guide lorry drivers when reversing.
  • Adherence to safe loading and unloading practices.
Monitoring and Review:

A system of reporting time may be used to monitor the progress of drivers over routes, by whatever mean are regarded as being suitable.

Designed vehicle may be fitted with tachographs, other recording devices or speed limiting devices to control speeding. Management will arrange regular inspections of tachographs, other recording devices and speed limiting devices to ensure that they are not being tampered with. Where there are discrepancies with tachograph cards these will be investigated.

A system for inspecting typing down for loads, roping, netting and sheeting will be implemented to ensure vehicles do not leave M.A.Agencies with over loaded vehicles or insecure loads.

paper work issued to drivers will also be used as a means of monitoring controls.


Inspections:

All vehicle will be inspected on a daily basis, or at start of a shift.


Inspections, by a competent person, of workshops or maintenance areas will be conducted at three monthly intervals to ensure safety arrangements are being compiles with.


Accidents:

All accidents and incidents involving vehicles must be reported and will be investigated in accordance with M.A.Agencies company procedure. The results of accident, incident or near miss investigations investigations will be communicated throughout the organization to prevent recurrence.
